Ignition Law Champions Internal Growth With Strategic Promotions

Ignition Law, renowned for its innovative business model, has announced the promotion of four team members across its Corporate, Property, and Dispute Resolution practices. This marks an exciting step in the firm’s ongoing focus on cultivating internal talent to drive growth.

From April 1, Karishma Naravane and Michael Copeland stepped into new roles as Corporate Legal Directors, whilst Catherine Campbell-Barnard was appointed as Property Legal Director. Within the Dispute Resolution team, Djamela Magid has been promoted to Senior Consultant.

These promotions are a testament to the value each individual brings to the firm. The Legal Director appointments, in particular, recognise those who have consistently operated beyond the remit of their previous roles—demonstrating leadership, a strategic approach to business development, and a continued focus on delivering exceptional client outcomes. Their progression highlights Ignition’s ongoing focus on championing in-house talent and maintaining excellence across all areas of the firm.

With a strong track record across sectors including tech, finance, healthcare, retail, and travel, Karishma Naravane is well placed to support the Corporate team as Legal Director—delivering cost-effective, high-quality legal services tailored to the needs of growing businesses.

On the topic of her promotion, Karishma remarked:

“Ignition is a firm built on purpose, diversity, and impact—values that deeply resonate with me. I’m excited to step into this new role and continue contributing to a culture where meaningful work and inclusive collaboration thrive.”

With more than 20 years of experience in corporate law, Michael Copeland has advised on acquisitions, joint ventures, special situations, and general advisory matters. His broad legal expertise and international background make him a valuable asset to the Corporate team in his new role as Legal Director.

Reflecting on his promotion, Michael has said:

“I am very pleased to be promoted to Legal Director and look forward to continuing to assist the firm’s entrepreneurial and SME clients on a range of exciting matters.”

Catherine Campbell-Barnard is an experienced commercial property lawyer with expertise in sales, leases, finance, and development matters. Her wide-ranging client work positions her well to succeed as Property Legal Director, supporting the team in delivering tailored, exceptional legal services to a diverse client base.

Speaking about her experience of the culture at Ignition, Catherine shares:

“Ignition strikes a great balance between trust and support. You have the freedom to work as you choose, to go out and build your own practice, whilst also knowing there is always someone to talk to and run things past. It provides a great framework to work flexibly for really interesting clients in a genuinely kind and caring environment.”

Djamela Magid brings dispute resolution experience across sectors such as construction, technology, and finance, supported by a background in Banking, Corporate, and Project Finance law. As Senior Consultant, her broad expertise will enhance the team’s ability to manage complex disputes and provide strategic, effective client advice.

Speaking about her recent promotion, Djamela said:

“The change from a salaried employee to a self-employed consultant when I first joined Ignition was, and still is, an exciting prospect that challenges me professionally and personally on a daily basis. It’s been a pleasure working with and learning from Tammy and my other colleagues, and I’m so happy to be able to continue to do it in my new role as a Senior Consultant.”

These appointments highlight Ignition’s commitment to developing talent and deepening expertise across key practice areas, while continuing to support the entrepreneurial spirit at the heart of the firm. Each individual will certainly play a key role in advancing the legal service offering as the firm grows.

Commenting on the recent promotions, firm founder Alex McPherson said,

“At our core, we champion an approach to both our people and our clients that builds trust, nurtures relationships, and scales alongside the ambitions of all."

“Our recent promotions represent much more than just a change in title – they embody our commitment to growth and innovation. As we welcome these talented leaders to their new roles, I’m proud to reaffirm our belief that providing hybrid, flexible legal support for like-minded businesses is at the heart of our ethos."

In addition to its strong focus on nurturing internal growth, as highlighted by these recent promotions, Ignition is also widely recognised for offering a dynamic and collaborative working environment, where team members are exposed to a wide variety of client work that is both innovative and meaningful. Close client relationships are a hallmark of the firm, providing not only professional enrichment but also a deep sense of personal fulfilment.

The firm also places a strong emphasis on peer-to-peer learning, fostering a culture of continuous development and mutual support that enables individuals to grow both personally and professionally.
