- New Phase Of 'The Dairy Roadmap' Unveiled
In a first-of-its-kind collaboration, the dairy industry today announces a new coalition with leading food companies united behind a bold commitment to sustainable dairy production. The Dairy Roadmap ensures farmers have an equal voice working alongside major retailers, foodservice and wholesale organisations and processors to meet key climate, nature and water goals, whilst upholding high standards of animal welfare. The new coalition will drive collaboration and for the first time ensure shared responsibility for environmental progress at every step of the supply chain, from the farm gate right through to the kitchen table. The changes see the dairy value chain operate under one governance structure, with a new Steering Group established. The Group, comprised of AHDB, Dairy UK, NFU, Arla Foods UK, Dale Farm, First Milk, Lactalis UK & Ireland, Müller UK & Ireland, Tesco, Sainsbury’s, Morrisons, McDonald’s and Sysco GB, will work as one to collectively set the strategic direction of the Dairy Roadmap. The Dairy Roadmap will oversee the creation of a new Sustainable Dairy Pathways Report. Independently conducted, it will highlight the funding and innovations needed to reach net zero and other key sustainability goals. The Report will be published in 2026, with the entire industry invited to contribute into the report. Bas Padberg, the new chair of The Dairy Roadmap and Managing Director of Arla Foods UK commented: “We have to find ways of feeding a growing population and providing nutrient-dense foods that nourish people. Dairy has a key role to play in this, but we know that as an industry, we also need to ensure that we limit our impact on the environment and bring down emissions." “Collaborating across the industry and with the biggest retailers and foodservice partners shows the commitment that we have in our sector to create a more resilient and sustainable future for our food. As a natural source of nutrition, the future for dairy is bright and I look forward to steering the collaborative effort that will drive real change.” Judith Bryans, Chief Executive of Dairy UK, says: “This new collaboration is a major milestone for the Dairy Roadmap. We’re so excited to see to see the initiative evolving to meet the challenges of the future - uniting the value chain to move forward as one in reaching Net Zero, while protecting and enhancing nature along the way." “The Dairy Roadmap is one of the longest standing sustainability initiatives in the food sector, beginning in 2008 and with nearly 18 years of hard work and successes to its name, including impressive achievements by dairy processors on water, energy and waste reduction.” “This new approach to meeting sustainability targets marks an ambitious new chapter for our sector”, comments AHDB Dairy Sector Council Chair and outgoing Roadmap Chair Lyndon Edwards, who will hand over the role to Bas Padberg of Arla Foods. “Through this commitment and collaborative effort, we are rising to the challenge of securing a profitable, resilient and sustainable future for the UK dairy industry.” Paul Tompkins, NFU National Dairy Board Chair, adds: “For many years, The Dairy Roadmap has served as a valuable platform to highlight continuous improvement in our sector. As customer and regulatory expectations continue to evolve, it is clear that the entire sector must rise to this growing challenge in order to maintain our valued place in baskets." “The costs and complexities of compliance are significant, and dairy farmers cannot meet them alone. We are pleased to be embarking on a refreshed, collaborative approach to driving environmental performance.” In the coming months, dairy farmers and other industry stakeholders across the UK will be invited to help shape the independent Sustainable Pathways Report.
- NFU Urges Government To Modernise Food Education In Schools
The NFU is calling on the government to strengthen the UK’s food security for the future by improving the quality of how food and farming is taught in schools. With the curriculum under review for the first time in over a decade, the NFU is urging ministers to update subject content to better reflect the realities of modern farming and food production, particularly within STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) subjects such as the popular GCSE Biology award. Better education will not only support healthy, informed food choices from a young age, but also help close the skills gap by opening up new career pathways for young people at a time when the sector urgently needs skilled professionals in science, engineering and environmental management. The NFU’s key asks of the government as it carries out its review are: An urgent review of GCSE Biology subject content and related subjects to better reflect food, farming and food security. A commitment to improving the quality of food education in all schools. NFU Vice-president Rachel Hallos said: “The NFU is proud to call for an education system that gives the next generation a wider awareness of where their food comes from and the exciting career opportunities throughout the farm-to-fork journey." “The government has repeatedly said that ‘food security is national security’. If it truly believes that, now is the time to act. This curriculum review is a once-in-a-generation chance to improve how young people learn about food and farming, and we want to see that reflected across subjects like Biology, Geography and Food Technology." “By improving the quality of food education now, we can secure a future where our children become the scientists, engineers and innovators who drive sustainable food production and environmental management." “Young people deserve to leave school with a fair understanding of the many benefits British farming has to offer. We know this is a view shared both by teachers and by tens of thousands of people across the country who stand behind us too. It’s time the curriculum caught up.”

- Clegg Construction Gives Student Opportunity
Working on the site of a new college building has given construction student Archie Martin ambitions to build for his future in the sector. The seventeen-year-old has spent hundreds of hours on site with contractor Clegg Construction as the company delivers the new £8.8m Future Tech Skills and Knowledge Exchange at West Nottinghamshire College. It’s part of his T Level Design, Surveying and Planning for Construction course at the college and has given him a valuable insight into the construction sector – inspiring him in his future career plans. T Levels are nationally-recognised qualifications equivalent to three A Levels or a Level 3 vocational programme and includes an industry placement with a reputable employer. These give students an opportunity to gain real-world experience at an external business, enhancing their technical skills ready to take into the workplace and creating relationships that could result in an apprenticeship or employment. “It’s been good,” said Archie. “I have enjoyed working with the staff. They have really assisted me and I’ve learned a lot. Sometimes it’s the little things, like the terminology for things on site is very different in practice…things like how you address people on site, the trades and what they do. Other times it’s much bigger things, like how quickly the site can progress in a week." “It’s great to have been getting experience from people who have been doing this for years. It’s going to benefit me in many ways.” After spending some time in Clegg Construction’s head office in Nottingham as well as on site in Mansfield, Archie will have completed 315 hours with the company – equivalent to 45 days. As he prepares for the second year of his course, he is contemplating the next stage of his studies and has been particularly inspired by project management and surveying. “I really appreciate the work experience that has been given to me by Clegg Construction,” he said. “It’s not always easy for them to have me around with them, as well as what they have to do on the site. I can‘t thank them enough.” His work on site has included helping with staff inductions and site permits, being involved in the weekly photos that are taken, learning more about CAD software, understanding how different tradespeople work in partnership and much more. Just one of Archie’s takeouts is that the construction programme continues…whatever the weather. He recalls snow being shovelled off the roof to allow the roofers to get working on site. “You can’t control the weather. You have to work around it,” he said. Archie was also particularly impressed by the speed at which the Future Tech Skills and Knowledge Exchange building, on the college’s Chesterfield Road campus in Mansfield, took shape. “I started in October and saw the steel frame go up. That marks the start of things to come,” he explained. “It’s crazy how fast things can move on in a week. It’s how it is in construction, but it’s very impressive.” Clegg Construction is committed to supporting the next generation of construction workers and has been happy to host Archie on site and at the company’s headquarters in The Lace Market. Clegg Construction project manager Andy Turner said: “Archie has proven to be a very positive addition to the team working on the West Notts College scheme. He has approached the placement with a good deal of maturity, blending in with the site team and involving himself in the day-to-day activities. The appreciation of the insight he’s been exposed to should hopefully complement his construction-related studies, something Clegg Construction is more than happy to promote and assist with." “A scheme such as this, with the noted social value and close to our home in Nottingham, allows us to actively promote construction as a worthy career path and in doing so encourage the next generation of builders." “Archie has shown commitment beyond his placement brief in organising attendance during college recess, which has further enhanced his experience on a live and busy construction site. He has been a pleasure to mentor.” Kelly Hammond, work placement engagement advisor in the college’s construction department, said: “I am delighted that Archie's industry placement has been such a resounding success and that he has learnt so much from being in this environment, seeing the reality of life on site and being supported by the construction team." “This underlines the importance of this type of placement to support students in their learning and enabling them to put the theory into practice. We appreciate the hard work of the Clegg Construction team in aiding Archie’s supervision – the outcome is mutually-beneficial in supporting and nurturing the future workforce." “Well done to Archie for grasping this opportunity and for making such a positive impression on the team. I really hope this has helped him to decide on his career pathway once he completes the course." Gavin Peake, director of IT, estates and learning resources at the college, said: “It is fantastic that one of our own students has had the opportunity to work with Clegg Construction to build this fabulous new facility. I’m sure this is a project Archie will have been proud to see come to fruition and it will be a permanent fixture in the college estate, serving the needs of future cohorts of learners." “The skills and knowledge Archie has acquired during his placement will also be at his fingertips for every other project he works on going forward, and we wish him the very best in his construction career.” Clegg Construction is a Midlands, East Anglia, and Yorkshire-based construction firm specialising in the delivery of public and private sector projects. The Future Tech Skills and Knowledge Exchange will accommodate around 250 college students and will deliver qualifications at Level 3 and above, with a strong focus on innovation and technology subjects. The building will provide 1,343 sq. m. of high-quality teaching space across two floors and be a focal delivery point for construction T Levels. Funding for the new facility is through a £4.3m allocation from Mansfield District Council’s Towns Fund pot, £3.8m from the Education and Skills Funding Agency as part of the second phase of its Further Education Capital Transformation Fund, and £734,000 from the college and Nottingham Trent University. Archie added: “It’s great to know that what I am doing now is going to benefit other young people down the line.”
- Deloitte CFO Survey: UK Rises Up The List Of Attractiveness
Deloitte’s latest survey of UK Chief Financial Officers shows that finance leaders see the UK as the most attractive destination when it comes to investment, alongside India, with a net 13% describing it as very or somewhat attractive. The survey – which took place between 16th and 29th June – is a contrast from the fourth quarter survey of 2024, when the UK came in sixth place, behind the US, India, the Middle East, emerging Europe and Japan. Richard Houston, senior partner and chief executive of Deloitte UK, said: “These results reveal a shift in sentiment with the UK now viewed as a leading global investment destination. This renewed confidence, coupled with a rise in risk appetite, is welcome and underscores the considerable investment potential the UK offers.” Business Sentiment Is More Balanced There was a slight increase in business sentiment overall among CFOs this quarter, with the index of business optimism seeing a modest increase for a second quarter to -11%, compared to -14% last quarter. CFOs now expect inflation to decline to 2.9% by the middle of next year and expect the Bank of England to lower its base rate to 3.75% over the next 12 months, down from its current rate of 4.25%. Risk Appetite Improves This quarter, CFOs reported an uptick in risk appetite with 17% believing that it is a good time to take greater risk onto their balance sheets, compared to 12% last quarter. The survey shows a slight tilt away from defensive strategies for the first time in a year, with CFOs more likely to give priority to expansionary strategies such as introducing new products or expanding into new markets than they have been at any point since the autumn of 2023. Nonetheless, defensive strategies remain twice as likely to be a strong priority as expansionary ones - with an expansionary strategy on average likely to be a strong priority for 19% of CFOs and a defensive strategy on average a priority for 41% of CFOs. Geopolitics Remains Top Risk To Business For the eighth consecutive quarter, geopolitical risk continues to be rated as the top external risk to business. It was assigned its third highest weighted average risk rating3 since the survey first started asking the question in 2018, however the rating has marginally fallen this quarter to 71, from 74 in March. The percentage of finance chiefs reporting that the level of external uncertainty facing their business is high or very high, has dipped from 46% last quarter to 44%. This is slightly above the long term average of 40%. Ian Stewart, chief economist at Deloitte UK, said: “Despite conflict in the Middle East and volatility in oil prices levels of concern about geopolitical risk fell slightly in the second quarter. This may reflect an easing of concerns around trade in the light of the UK-US trade deal announced in early May.”

- DENZA Makes UK Debut At Goodwood Festival Of Speed
DENZA, the premium technology-oriented automotive brand of the BYD Group, is making its official public debut in the UK at the popular Goodwood Festival of Speed. DENZA will showcase its elegant European design influences, sophisticated materials and cutting-edge innovations like Super DM hybrid with a selection of models on show, including the Z9GT Grand Tourer and the B5 premium SUV. As part of the build-up to starting sales at the beginning of 2026, DENZA will also explain how it leverages the immense research and development resources of the world’s largest new-energy vehicle manufacturer to deliver breakthrough dynamics and performance. DENZA’s presence at Goodwood is being led by the advanced Z9GT, a model that brings many unique features to the premium market and offers customers the choice of either a pure-electric powertrain or the colossal range of a Super DM plug-in hybrid configuration. The Z9GT will use DENZA’s Goodwood stand to demonstrate the unique capabilities of its e3 Platform, performing Compass U-Turns and showing how precision control, torque control and supreme steering enable easier parking manoeuvres in tight situations. DENZA’s presence will be completed by the D9, an MPV that mixes sustainable powertrains with a cabin honed to deliver business-class comfort, and the B5, a premium SUV that will bring the appeal of an off-road focus to the range. Executive Vice President of BYD Stella Li commented: “We’re thrilled to be introducing DENZA to UK customers, especially at the iconic Goodwood Festival of Speed. This is a brand that has always had its roots in European design in particular, and we’re confident that British car enthusiasts will find inspiration in how DENZA blends that influence with our sophisticated technologies, the finest craftsmanship and, for the first time in this segment, a true focus on efficient, sustainable new-energy powertrains.” European Influence From The Outset – How DENZA Has Evolved DENZA was founded in 2010 as a joint venture between BYD and Mercedes-Benz, allowing a unique blend of European design and luxury experience with Chinese expertise in electrification. Those European genes continue to run through the core of DENZA’s products today, for while DENZA is now wholly owned by BYD, its design direction is guided by the renowned German designer Wolfgang Egger. And of course, it is supported more than ever by the colossal development department at BYD, with more than 120,000 engineers working constantly on innovative technologies that enhance the user experience. Every letter of the DENZA name itself relates to a key attribute of the brand’s values. D stands for Diverse, referring to the wide range of abilities that will be covered by the vehicle line-up; E refers to Elegance, referencing the timeless design and comfortable dynamics and cabins of DENZA models. N stands for Novel, reflecting the unique features introduced by DENZA vehicles, while Z is Zenith, thanks to the peak sophistication delivered by the bespoke e3 Platform and a ground-up dedication to new-energy technologies. And A equates to Aspirational, acknowledging DENZA’s positioning in the premium segment, with desirable design, quality and materials. Timeless Elegance Of Design Meets Cutting-Edge Technology Aesthetically, the DENZA brand combines elegant finesse and premium craftsmanship to create a strong sense of resilience, safety and power, while offering exceptional refinement and aerodynamic efficiency. The inspiration for the vehicles’ clean, understated surfaces is silk – a fabric that is luxurious both to the eye and the touch. Design Director Wolfgang Egger said: “There are some rules in design, just as in architecture. Every line, every graphic, every surface must have a relationship together and make sense. True lines enhance the beauty of the sculpture, and this is what we have worked towards with DENZA design.” He added: “In the case of silk, it is an inspiration in many ways. Take a sculpture, or a vehicle like the DENZA Z9GT, and cover it in silk. Then take the same item and cover it with cotton, and you’ll notice a big difference. You know what happens: the silk falls naturally and covers the body but still shows, under the surface, the beauty of what is already there.” This design ethos delivers confident, fluid lines that epitomise precision at every touchpoint, while successfully exploiting the DENZA-specific platform beneath to ensure proportions that appeal to the eye and maximise cabin packaging for a supremely comfortable passenger experience. With BYD as the parent brand, advanced technology and smart connected experiences are core characteristics of DENZA. The interior of DENZA models exudes a high-tech ambience, with a signature large touchscreen at the centre of the console and wraparound cockpit, as well as rear multimedia screens for passenger infotainment and premium sound systems. Powered By The Sophisticated e3 Platform At the heart of the Z9GT lies the e3 Platform, created specifically for the DENZA brand. It brings a number of world-first and class-leading functions, based on four core technologies: three-motor independent drive, rear-wheel dual-motor independent steering, Vehicle Motion Control and Cell-to-Body (CTB) battery-body integration. This all-encompassing solution means vehicles with the e3 Platform have abilities that are unique to the premium segment: the turning circle of a European city car in an E-segment model, crab-walking functionality for narrow streets with obstacles, and world-beating reaction times that bring higher levels of dynamic involvement and safety.
- Gallagher Group Celebrates UK’s Youngest Qualified Digger Driver
At just 13 years old, Finlay Gallagher has officially become the UK’s youngest qualified digger driver – and we couldn’t be prouder. The Gallagher Group was founded over 50 years ago by his grandfather, Pat Gallagher, and it seems the passion for construction is alive and well in the next generation Finlay spent his school holidays mastering the controls of the iconic JCB 3CX Plus backhoe loader, passing his Construction Plant Competence Scheme (CPCS) test with flying colours at Flynne Plant Training Centre ( flynneplanttraining.com ) in Rochford, Essex. He demonstrated a confident grasp of both theory and hands-on operation, including digging, loading, lifting and using machine attachments with precision well beyond his years. A Legacy That Started with One Digger Pat Gallagher, Chairman of Gallagher Group, started the business back in 1973 with a single JCB 3C Mk2. It’s fair to say the business – and the fleet – have grown a bit since then. We now operate over 300 machines and employ more than 500 people across the South East. Pat couldn’t be prouder. “I’ve always said I wasn’t much good behind the controls of a digger – so Finlay is already ahead of me! I am exceptionally proud of Finlay and everything he has achieved. He has always shown an incredible passion and interest for machinery from an early age, and this course has given him a chance to deepen his knowledge and ability. I was blown away by how naturally he took to it, and it really does give me great hope for the future. Hopefully, this inspires many other young people to give it a go and see the construction industry as a fantastic career opportunity.” Finlay’s dad, Stephen Gallagher, a Director of the business, also sees a bright future ahead. “Finlay’s had a passion for diggers since he could walk. He’s grown up with machinery all around him and has absorbed so much just by watching and asking questions.” Finlay’s Big Achievement Reflecting on his achievement, Finlay said: “I’ve loved diggers since I was really little – probably around three or four. My grandad Dave used to drive me around in his dozer, while he did the pedals and I sat on his lap. Then my grandad Pat got me interested in excavators and backhoe loaders, which started my love of JCBs." "I definitely see my future in the construction industry. My grandad Pat started the Gallagher Group, and it would mean a lot to me to play a part in helping the business continue to grow. This qualification is a great first step, and I’m keen to build on it by learning to operate more types of plant machinery.” Finlay Gallagher being assessed in an excavator while doing his practical test for his CPCS. Finlay impressed his instructor, Derek Mansfield of Flynne Plant Training, who commented: “Finlay was one of the most enthusiastic and capable young candidates we’ve had. His control of the machine and understanding of how it operates were far beyond what you’d expect at his age. He picked things up incredibly quickly and showed real natural ability. He’s now officially the youngest person in the UK to pass this qualification, which is a fantastic achievement. The Gallagher family should be very proud. We’d welcome Finlay back any time to train on more machines, and I genuinely look forward to seeing where his skills take him next.” To celebrate Finlay’s qualification, he was invited to one of the JCB Groundworker Days where he was presented with a special model gift from Lord Bamford to congratulate him on his achievement. He was then invited to debut with the JCB demonstration team, where he drove the JCB hydrogen-powered backhoe loader as part of the opening routine. JCB Chairman Lord Bamford said: “I wholeheartedly applaud Finlay’s achievement. He is a talented young man who has demonstrated at a very young age just how simple and intuitive it is to operate today’s JCB diggers.” The Future Now, Finlay hopes to build on his skills and eventually become a fully qualified plant operator across multiple machines. He’s even sharing his journey online through his Instagram account @digger_finngallagher, inspired by industry influencer Georgina Williams, a.k.a. @the_happydigger. Finlay with his dad and the trainers at Flynne Training We’re immensely proud of Finlay’s achievement and can’t wait to see where his passion and talent will take him next. He may only be 13, but he’s already digging into the Gallagher legacy – and doing it better than the man who started it all! - BMX Racing Season Ramps Up With European Championships
British Cycling has announced the seven-strong team that has been selected to represent Great Britain at the 2025 UEC BMX Racing European Championships in Valmeira, Latvia from 10-13 July. The first major event since the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games will see the return of familiar faces of the GBCT BMX Racing squad, while also introducing potential stars of the future, as three new riders make their European Championships debut. Having started the 2025 season in incredible form, with first and second place finishes at round one and two of the European cup, as well as a world cup win at the Papendal, Shriever will be looking to take her first championship podium of the season, as part of her world championship preparation. On the elite men’s side, motivated from his reserve selection at Paris 2024, Ross Cullen has come into the season fighting, with a first and second place finish the European Cup rounds, so far. Round four of the UCI BMX Racing World Cup in Papendal saw Cullen take his first ever world cup win, with a dominant performance he will look to replicate in Latvia. Having recently returned from injury, Kye Whyte will also line up in the elite men's contest. Having won the under-23 women’s silver medal in 2024, Emily Hutt will be looking to take more silverware home this year and has so far seen a positive start to the season having won world cup bronze and silver medals. Adding to her competition this year will be teammates Sienna Harvey and Betsy Bax who move up to the under-23 category for the first time. Both have shown early potential in the category, with Bax taking a bronze medal in round five of this year’s European cup, while Harvey bagged herself a win in round six. All three women will be battling it out with the rest of the field to take home that coveted European jersey. Rounding out the squad will be newcomer Jos Marnham, who will be competing in the under-23 men’s event having only joined the GBCT programme in October last year. Jos has shown early potential and will be aiming to gather vital experience at international level on his championship debut. Performance Director for the Great Britain Cycling Team, Stephen Park CBE, said: “Looking at the squad heading to this year’s European Championships, split almost equally between veterans of the sport and fast-developing young riders, it brings me great pride to see the speed and strength with which GBCT’s BMX Racing programme has developed." “Heading into LA with experienced riders, as well as young and hungry developing riders who looked up to the likes of Beth and Kye as recently as Tokyo shows the strength of the sport and its pathway, and how our coaches are harnessing that talent." "It makes me excited to see what the riders can do at this early stage in the LA cycle as they have all to play for – I'm sure we’re in for a fantastic weekend of racing.” The GBCT BMX Racing programme saw its first ever Olympic medallists at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, with Beth Shriever becoming Olympic champion and Kye Whyte taking the silver medal in the men’s event. - Essential Tips For Staying Safe & Healthy During A Heatwave
As summer rolls in and the hot weather continues across much of the UK, many areas face rising temperatures and these extreme weather conditions pose significant risks, especially for vulnerable groups, including the elderly, children, and those with pre-existing health issues. Being informed and prepared can help you navigate these sweltering days safely. Here are some practical tips to ensure you stay safe and healthy during heatwaves. Understand the Risks of Heatwaves Heatwaves are defined as prolonged periods of excessively high temperatures, often coupled with high humidity. This combination can lead to serious health issues such as heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Recognising the symptoms of heat-related illnesses is crucial. Heat exhaustion can manifest as heavy sweating, weakness, dizziness, and nausea. If left unaddressed, it can escalate to heat stroke, which presents with symptoms like confusion, loss of consciousness, and a dangerously high body temperature. Being vigilant about these symptoms can protect you and those around you. Hydrate, Hydrate, Hydrate Staying hydrated is one of the simplest ways to combat the heat. During a heatwave, your body loses a lot of water through sweating, making it essential to replenish your fluids. Aim to drink at least eight 8-ounce glasses of water daily. If you're active or in a particularly hot climate, increase your intake. To maintain hydration, you might also consider drinking unsweetened herbal teas or electrolyte-infused beverages , which boost hydration without the dehydrating effects of sugary or caffeinated drinks. A study by the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition indicated that adequate hydration can improve overall physical performance by nearly 40% . A clear glass pitcher filled with refreshing water on a kitchen counter Seek Shade and Stay Indoors During peak heat hours, typically between 10am and 4pm , it's advisable to stay indoors whenever possible. If you must go outside, try to find shade to lower the risk of overheating. Protective clothing is also essential. Opt for lightweight, light-coloured, and loose-fitting attire that allows your skin to breathe. Wearing a wide-brimmed hat and UV-blocking sunglasses can protect you further when you have to be outside. RecogniSe the Importance of Air Conditioning Air conditioning is your first line of defense against heat-related health issues. It helps lower indoor temperatures and manage humidity, making your environment more comfortable. If you do not have air conditioning, look for public places such as libraries, shopping malls, or community centres where you can cool down. Studies show that staying in a cooled environment during a heatwave can reduce the risk of heat-related illnesses by 50% . An air conditioning unit is cooling a room during a hot day Watch for Signs of Heat-Related Illness Being aware of heat-related illness symptoms is essential for your safety and the safety of those around you. For example, if you notice someone experiencing heavy sweating and weakness, it's a clear signal to act promptly. Move to a cooler location, hydrate, and avoid exertion until recovery. If symptoms worsen to confusion or loss of consciousness, seeking immediate medical attention is critical. Engage in Light Physical Activity While it's wise to avoid intense exercise during extreme heat, light physical activities can be beneficial if done wisely. Consider taking walks or doing gentle yoga in the early morning or late evening when temperatures are more manageable. Always listen to your body; if you feel dizzy or weak, take breaks and cool down immediately. Remember to keep hydrated throughout your activity. Keep Track of Local Heat Advisories Staying updated on local weather conditions can help you prepare for heatwaves effectively. Many meteorological services issue heat advisories that include critical information about expected temperatures and safety tips. Check reliable sources, such as government weather websites or local news stations, for regular updates on local weather reports for updates during extreme weather events. Plan for Pets and Vulnerable Individuals Heatwaves do not just affect humans; pets and vulnerable family members also require special attention. Ensure that your pets have plenty of water and shade outdoors. Avoid taking them for walks during peak sunlight hours, and keep them indoors when possible. If you have elderly relatives or neighbours, make it a point to check on them throughout the heatwave. They may be particularly susceptible to heat-related illnesses, and a simple phone call or visit can significantly impact their safety and comfort. A Final Word on Staying Safe Heatwaves can pose serious risks to health and well-being. Understanding these dangers and how to mitigate them is essential for maintaining safety. By staying hydrated, seeking shade, engaging in light activity, keeping informed about advisories, and preparing your home, you can more safely navigate the summer heat. Always put your well-being and the well-being of those around you first. Dive into summer while keeping safe!
