BMX Racing Season Ramps Up With European Championships

British Cycling has announced the seven-strong team that has been selected to represent Great Britain at the 2025 UEC BMX Racing European Championships in Valmeira, Latvia from 10-13 July.

The first major event since the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games will see the return of familiar faces of the GBCT BMX Racing squad, while also introducing potential stars of the future, as three new riders make their European Championships debut.

Having started the 2025 season in incredible form, with first and second place finishes at round one and two of the European cup, as well as a world cup win at the Papendal, Shriever will be looking to take her first championship podium of the season, as part of her world championship preparation.

On the elite men’s side, motivated from his reserve selection at Paris 2024, Ross Cullen has come into the season fighting, with a first and second place finish the European Cup rounds, so far. Round four of the UCI BMX Racing World Cup in Papendal saw Cullen take his first ever world cup win, with a dominant performance he will look to replicate in Latvia. Having recently returned from injury, Kye Whyte will also line up in the elite men's contest.

Having won the under-23 women’s silver medal in 2024, Emily Hutt will be looking to take more silverware home this year and has so far seen a positive start to the season having won world cup bronze and silver medals.

Adding to her competition this year will be teammates Sienna Harvey and Betsy Bax who move up to the under-23 category for the first time. Both have shown early potential in the category, with Bax taking a bronze medal in round five of this year’s European cup, while Harvey bagged herself a win in round six. All three women will be battling it out with the rest of the field to take home that coveted European jersey.

Rounding out the squad will be newcomer Jos Marnham, who will be competing in the under-23 men’s event having only joined the GBCT programme in October last year. Jos has shown early potential and will be aiming to gather vital experience at international level on his championship debut.

Performance Director for the Great Britain Cycling Team, Stephen Park CBE, said: “Looking at the squad heading to this year’s European Championships, split almost equally between veterans of the sport and fast-developing young riders, it brings me great pride to see the speed and strength with which GBCT’s BMX Racing programme has developed."

“Heading into LA with experienced riders, as well as young and hungry developing riders who looked up to the likes of Beth and Kye as recently as Tokyo shows the strength of the sport and its pathway, and how our coaches are harnessing that talent."

"It makes me excited to see what the riders can do at this early stage in the LA cycle as they have all to play for – I'm sure we’re in for a fantastic weekend of racing.”

The GBCT BMX Racing programme saw its first ever Olympic medallists at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, with Beth Shriever becoming Olympic champion and Kye Whyte taking the silver medal in the men’s event. Since then, thanks to UK Sport World Class Programme, funded by The National Lottery, the Great Britain Cycling Team programme has continued to grow, with the development of a junior and senior pathway, as well as taking five world championship and four European championship medals.
