John Lewis Money Appoints Director of Financial Services

The board of John Lewis Finance, the regulated business behind John Lewis Money, has appointed Charles Offord as Director of Financial Services, John Lewis Money. He will join on 18 November and will also sit on the John Lewis Finance Board. His appointment is subject to regulatory approval by the Financial Conduct Authority.

Charles has more than 20 years' experience in financial services. He was Managing Director of Co-op Insurance for six years, having joined in 2014 as Distribution and Marketing Director. Before that he was Managing Director of Equity Insurance Partnerships and Operations Director at Insurance Australia Group. His earlier career in finance was within the oil, gas and logistics sectors.

John Lewis Money has been part of the Partnership for more than 20 years. Around 1.4 million customers use its products, including the Partnership Card, home, car and pet insurance, and travel money. Last year it supported £1.5bn of spending at John Lewis and Waitrose.

This year John Lewis Money launched its broker model for credit and insurance. For home and car insurance, it now works with a panel of leading insurers rather than a single provider, giving customers more choice and more competitive prices.

Charles succeeds James Mack, who leaves at the end of the year to become Chief Financial Officer of Yorkshire Building Society. James has overseen John Lewis Money's move to become a regulated broker.

Nina Bhatia, Managing Director of New Businesses at the John Lewis Partnership, said:

“John Lewis Money is one of the ways we give customers more reasons to choose John Lewis and Waitrose. Charles has extensive experience working with major brands and has led a financial services business that customers trust, inside a member-owned organisation, so he understands how a business like ours works. He joins as we build on our new model across insurance, credit and travel money."

“I'd like to thank James for the work he has done to set John Lewis Money up for its next stage. We wish him every success in his new role.”

Charles Offord said:

“John Lewis and Waitrose have earned a special place in customers’ lives. We have a real opportunity to build on that relationship by bringing the same commitment to quality, value and service to their financial needs."

"I’m delighted to be joining the team and look forward to building on what they’ve already achieved and to the continued growth of the business, while finding new ways to deliver value for our customers and Partners.”
