Alyssa McLean, 19, who has been supported by CHAS for the past nine years, took on Aldi's Supermarket Sweep to raise money for the charity behind her care.
A teenager who has been supported by Children's Hospices Across Scotland (CHAS) for nine years raised £389.29 for the charity when she took on Aldi Scotland'’s Supermarket Sweep in Alloa.
Alyssa McLean, from Tullibody, has Hereditary Sensory Autonomic Neuropathy (HSAN). The rare condition stops her feeling pain properly and has caused multiple fractures, she manages this alongside a number of other complex needs.

CHAS has been part of family life throughout Alyssa’s health journey, with visits to Rachel House, the charity's hospice in Kinross, and support at home through CHAS at Home.
In Aldi's take on the classic gameshow, Alyssa had five minutes to fill a trolley with as many products as possible. Her mum, Moira, pushed her wheelchair and her auntie, Liz, handled the trolley, while Alyssa picked out toys alongside the groceries. Every item in the haul was Alyssa's to keep, while its £389.29 value was matched by Aldi Scotland as a donation to CHAS.
Alyssa McLean said:
“I was so excited to be asked to take part in the Aldi Supermarket Sweep as I love anything that involves fun and games. I was so happy that I was given the opportunity to choose toys as well as groceries for the Sweep and I feel proud that the Sweeps are run in aid of CHAS as I love going to Rachel House for visits.”
CHAS has been the chosen charity partner for Aldi Scotland's Supermarket Sweep since 2025, with £10,000 pledged in 2025 and again in 2026.
The partnership raises funds and awareness to support the work of the CHAS team, which cares for more than 540 babies, children and young people across Scotland with life-shortening conditions, and their families, every year.
The charity’s two hospices, Rachel House in Kinross and Robin House in Balloch, provide palliative, respite and end-of-life care. CHAS at Home teams also work in every local authority in Scotland, so families can be cared for in their own homes.
Linsey Cairns, Partnerships Manager, CHAS, said:
It was a real privilege to be at the Supermarket Sweep and spend time with a family who has experienced CHAS support first-hand. Seeing the excitement on the day and hearing about the difference our services have made to their family was incredibly moving."
“We’re so grateful to Aldi, its colleagues and customers for their continued support. Every week in Scotland, three children die from an incurable condition, and partnerships like Aldi's help ensure families across the country receive the care, support and special moments together that matter most."
“We can't thank them enough for standing alongside children and families when they need it most.”
Tom Brearey, Regional Managing Director, Aldi Scotland, said:
“CHAS provides extraordinary care to children and families across Scotland whether that’s through its hospices, in hospitals or in people’s own homes. Congratulations to Alyssa and thank you to her mum and auntie for taking part with such enthusiasm. Raising £389.29 for the charity that has been there for her family is a wonderful achievement."
“CHAS is a charity very close to our hearts, which does invaluable work for families in Scotland. Through initiatives like our Supermarket Sweep, we are pleased to help raise both funds and awareness so it can continue delivering care and support where it is needed most."
“Alyssa and her family have been supported by CHAS for nine years, and her story is a powerful reminder of why this partnership means so much to us.”
This April, CHAS launched its ‘More Than A Hospice’ appeal, seeking to raise £20 million to transform children’s palliative care across Scotland and ensure no family faces their child’s illness or end of life without the right care and support.
The appeal aims to fund the crucial rebuilding and refreshing of CHAS’s hospices, as well as the expansion of care in homes, communities and hospitals, giving families real choice over where and how they are supported when they need it most.
