Deadline Approaches To Submit Charnwood Sports Awards Nominations

The event, which is organised and run by Charnwood Borough Council, is in its 14th year, and celebrates the sporting achievements of individuals, clubs and volunteers, as well as highlighting workplaces and schools which are making a difference to the health and wellbeing of residents.

This year’s awards ceremony is taking place at Burleigh Court in Loughborough on Monday, 9 December 2024. However, the deadline for nominations is midnight on Friday, 4 October 2024.

Councillor Liz Blackshaw, the Council’s lead member for communities and neighbourhoods, said:

“Charnwood Sports Awards gives us all a chance to showcase and celebrate the fantastic sporting talent and contributions to physical activity across the borough."

"It also recognises schools and workplaces which have had a positive impact on the wellbeing of residents, along with the vital roles of coaches and volunteers."

“Can you think of any individuals who have been particularly outstanding in their sport this year, or groups that have help boost your own physical activity? If so, what better way to highlight the great work they do than to nominate them for a sports award."

“There is still time to submit nominations, but the deadline is not far away, so get your thinking caps on and get those nominations in before it is too late!”

Charnwood residents can nominate their sporting stars across a range of categories, including two new categories this year - Team of the Year and the Generation Charnwood Inspiration Award.

It has been an exciting summer of sport, with a number of athletes with Charnwood links competing at the summer Olympics and Paralympics in Paris, including the 2023 senior sportsperson of the year Jonathan Broom-Edwards.

In total, there are awards for eleven categories, including:

  • Let's Get Moving Schools Award

  • Junior Sportsperson of the Year

  • Senior Sportsperson of the Year

  • Let’s Get Moving Junior Ambassador of the Year

  • Let’s Get Moving Senior Ambassador of the Year
