Sainsbury's Opens First Ever Airport Store At Edinburgh Airport

Sainsbury’s and Edinburgh Airport have celebrated the launch of a new Local store at Scotland’s busiest airport.

The new convenience store is Sainsbury’s first ever shop to be located at an airport and its arrival is part of a major revamp of the food, drink and shopping options on offer to passengers flying to and from Edinburgh, as well as Edinburgh Airport colleagues.

Located before security with multiple customer entrances, the new store will be open 24 hours a day to serve and help customers passing through from both arrivals and departures at Edinburgh Airport, providing a carefully curated selection of Sainsbury’s great value, high-quality convenience products.

Featuring tasty food including a range of meal deals, fresh bread and cakes baked daily instore, delicious fruit and veg, meat, fish and meal solutions, as well as a bespoke Scottish section showcasing locally sourced favourites, Sainsbury’s Edinburgh Airport Local has something for everyone to choose from. Customers can also take advantage of a new Click & Collect service in the store, conveniently enabling them to order online from Sainsbury’s much-loved Argos, Habitat and Tu Clothing brands for collection.

Sainsbury’s investment includes a store team of 26 Sainsbury’s colleagues, who will work together to support good causes in the community, for example by redistributing surplus food locally to those who need it most via the retailer’s partnership with Neighbourly.

Jordan Mudie, Sainsbury’s Edinburgh Airport Store Manager, said: “My team and I are thrilled to be open for business in Edinburgh Airport from today – after months of work to get everything ready, we’re ready to help and serve our new customers 24 hours a day. We’re passionate about providing good food for all of us and we’re delighted to be able to bring Sainsbury’s tasty, great value products and helpful service to customers form this fantastic airport location. I’m really grateful for all the support we’ve received along the way and I hope everyone likes the new store as much as we do.”

Patrick Dunne, Sainsbury’s Director of Property, Procurement & EV Ventures, said: “We’re very excited to launch Sainsbury’s Local in a whole new setting for the first time today with the opening of our Edinburgh Airport store. We want to build on the resounding success of our other travel hub stores, for example in UK train stations, and we’ll be listening closely to feedback from customers in the coming weeks to learn more about what they want to see from this kind of Local. We then hope to bring Sainsbury’s unbeatable combination of outstanding value, quality food and great service to more airport locations in the UK.”

Gail Taylor, Chief Commercial Officer (XAero) at Edinburgh Airport, said: “Work has been ongoing behind the scenes to get this fantastic new Sainsbury’s store ready in time for Christmas so it’s great to see it now open for business."

“At the airport we’re always listening to the things our passengers are telling us, and providing they options they really want, so we’re confident this new addition will be a hugely popular choice. We look forward to working closely with Sainsbury’s on its success.”

Sainsbury’s employs over 7,000 colleagues in Scotland and has 100 Scottish stores, a combination of supermarkets and Locals, as well as around 60 Argos stores.
