Leigh Halfpenny Signs For Harlequins

Harlequins have confirmed the signing of Leigh Halfpenny for the 2024/25 season.

The former Wales and British & Irish Lions fullback, who most recently played for the Crusaders in Super Rugby Pacific, has joined the Club with immediate effect as injury cover for the season.

Halfpenny made his Wales debut in 2008 and retired from Test rugby in November last year following a glittering international career. The fullback achieved 101 caps and 801 points for Wales representing his country at three Rugby World Cups. He was also capped four times for the British & Irish Lions and was named the Player of the Series in 2013 against Australia.

At club level, Halfpenny has enjoyed stints with Cardiff Blues, RC Toulon and Scarlets, making close to 200 appearances in the domestic game. This season the sharpshooter played for the Crusaders in Super Rugby Pacific, earning his debut against the Queensland Reds in May 2024.

Upon signing with Harlequins, Halfpenny said:

“I’m excited to join Quins and I’m grateful for the opportunity to continue my career with such an iconic club. I have always admired the Premiership and I’m keen to grab this opportunity with both hands and contribute to the Quins DNA. I’m looking forward to getting stuck in and running out in front of a packed Stoop.”

Head Coach Danny Wilson commented:

“We’re thrilled to welcome Leigh to Quins. His experience speaks for itself, and he will bring plenty of leadership, expertise and high standards to our squad, helping mentor our talented stable of back three players alongside bringing the benefit of his enormous experience to the wider squad."

"He’s an incredible athlete, highly skilful and adaptive across multiple positions. We’re confident he’ll make a strong impact at Quins this season.”
