Britain's Most Googled Football Teams!

New research has revealed the most Googled football teams in each major UK city. The study by online casino and comparison experts at CasinoAlpha.com analysed Google search data from the past year to find the top five teams in each city. The analysis used a combination of terms such as ‘city team’, ‘club name’ and ‘city club team’ in order to compile the results.

Manchester's most Googled football team isn't City
Leeds United is third with an average search volume of 17,786 over the last year
Manchester United is the most Googled team with an average search volume of 220,031
Despite their achievements in the UEFA Champions League and the FA Cup, Manchester City F.C. does not place in the top five most Googled football teams. Over the weekend there was a spike in searches for the team due to their victory and winning the European treble. Manchester City have an average search volume of 2,310 per month.
The top five most Googled football teams are as follows:
1 - Manchester United Average search volume: 220,031 One of the world’s most popular clubs, Man U was originally founded as Newton Heath LYR in 1878. In 1902 the club's name was changed to the familiar Manchester United. Under the management of Sir Alex Ferguson, Man U won 38 trophies including two Champions League titles. The club also became the first English football team in history to achieve the European treble (winning the Premier League, FA Cup and UEFA Champions League.)
2 - Liverpool F.C. Average search volume: 21,455 Liverpool are one of the most valuable teams in football and were the first professional English club to feature a sponsor’s logo on the shirt in 1979. The team have played at Anfield during home games since being founded in 1892 and have won eight FA Cups and one FIFA Club World Cup.
3 - Leeds United
Average search volume: 17,786
Leeds was most successful under the management of Don Revie during the 1960s and 70s. The club won the League title twice and the FA Cup once among other competitions during this time. Leeds had spent sixteen years out of the Premier League prior to 2020 but in July of that year the club was promoted back to the top flight.
4 - Oldham Athletic
Average search volume: 10,679
Originally founded as Pine Villa F.C. in 1895, Oldham Athletic changed to the current name in 1899. The club was a founder member of the Premier League in 1992 but has since been relegated, becoming the first former Premier League team to play non-league football.
5 - Arsenal F.C.
Average search volume: 9,747
Arsenal is the third-most successful club in English football in terms of trophies won. The club has won fourteen FA Cups, two League Cups and thirteen league titles among other victories. Arsenal was founded in 1886 as Dial Square, becoming known as Arsenal in late 1915. It was estimated to be worth $2.68 billion by Forbes in 2020 and is one of the most followed teams on social media.
